Kantonsspital Winterthur in Switzerland is one of the first IASIOS Accredited Centres worldwide. In this video, leading clinicians discuss the importance of standardized patient pathways in ensuring high-quality care in interventional oncology.
IASIOS (International Accreditation System for Interventional Oncology Services) is the only global program dedicated to establishing and upholding rigorous standards for interventional oncology.
Interventional oncology is a subspecialty of radiology that involves minimally invasive, image-guided procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Common procedures include radiofrequency ablation (RFA), microwave ablation (MWA), transarterial chemoembolization (TACE), radioembolization (SIRT), and image-guided biopsies. These targeted approaches may help preserve healthy tissue, reduce side effects, and shorten recovery times. For patients who are not candidates for surgery or systemic therapies, interventional oncology can serve as a valuable option within a multidisciplinary cancer care team. As oncology continues to advance, interventional oncology is gaining recognition for its potential role in personalized, minimally invasive cancer treatment.
