Now I was a little under the weather so apologies for the sound of my voice some of the bits were recorded later and may sound slightly different.
Hidden in the mountains of Montana is the Berkeley Pit — a massive, toxic lake filled with acidic water and heavy metals. Once a thriving open-pit copper mine, it’s now a haunting reminder of what happens when industry and nature collide. This isn’t just polluted water — it’s a chemical soup so deadly that even birds die shortly after landing on it.
In this video, we explore the terrifying origins of the Berkeley Pit, how it became one of the most poisonous lakes on the planet, and the ongoing efforts to contain it before disaster strikes. We’ll also demonstrate a real copper displacement reaction to show exactly how metals like copper are stripped from water — just like what happens inside the pit.
