When I took the job as a park ranger in this remote national park, the old watchtower was just a strange line on the schedule.
No one patrolled it. No one logged it. No one would even point to it on the map.
Whenever I asked, the answer was the same:
“We have rules about the old watchtower. We don’t break them. We don’t question them.”
At first, I thought it was just veteran superstition.
Then I realized the rules weren’t there to protect us from the forest…
They were there to protect the forest from us.
Because the tower was never meant to be watched from.
It was meant to see who couldn’t look away.
Tonight, I’m going to tell you what happens when a ranger decides the rules don’t apply to them…
and what starts staring back from the dark when you look too long at the wrong place.
Listen with headphones.
Don’t replay this if you start seeing a tower where there isn’t one.

If you had a job with “unwritten rules” no one would explain, would you follow them or break them? Tell me in the comments.
