In this video I turn a matching pair of candlesticks using Iroko as the main wood with a White Oak "Celtic Knot" inlay. This is my first attempt at incorporating Celtic knots in my woodturning and is very much an experiment to test my workshop made bandsaw jig.
To start with I prepared two spindle blanks as square as i could without a planer and used my jig to cut slots at a 60 degree angle. (A "HOW TO" video of that process will follow soon.)
I then turn one spindle to the desired shape and use it as a reference to turn the second.
Once both spindles are finished I work on the first base and, once finished, use it as a reference to turn the second. With both spindles and bases turned i glue them together using the lathe as a clamp and leave to set overnight. Once the glue has cured I create a small hollow on the ends of the sticks to allow a brass cup to be glued in place to hold the wax candles in place.
