GIADEC was established to develop and promote the Integrated Aluminium Industry in Ghana. The master plan lays out how the Integrated Aluminium Industry will be developed.
There are four major parts to the IAI master plan: mining, refining, smelting and the downstream aluminium industry. The master plan also describes the key components such as infrastructure, allied industries, and the regulatory, statutory and environmental frameworks required to support the IAI in Ghana.
GIADEC aims to develop an additional three bauxite mines, set up two alumina refineries and expand the smelting capacity in the country.
GIADEC is also working closely with with a number of other agencies to deliver the Master Plan. These include Ministry of Railways Development, Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA), Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), Forestry Commission, Minerals Commission and others.
The delivery of the Master Plan will result in significant benefits to Ghana. It will lead to the development and expansion of many downstream aluminium industries including automotive, construction, packaging and electrical, resulting in the creation of jobs and stimulation of the economy.
