So many homes from the 1960s and 70s had (or still have) carpet growing in unusual places. We've all seen it, or removed it. Bathrooms, kitchens, walls, toilets- places fabric really shouldn't be if it can't be easily washed. Moisture is trapped below and the subfloor, always unprotected, starts to rot away. They smell musty, feel constantly damp, are full of dust and questionable debris, and have a few mystery stains. Why did we think carpet was a good idea? Who convinced people that making your washable bathmat into a full room size carpet and permanently stapling it down was the way to go? And in avocado green shag, no less.
