Modems are probably the least-used peripheral in vintage computing. What can you do when dial-up Internet is a waste of money, dial-up BBSes are swindling in numbers, and few people have a telephone line anymore anyway? I found a way to be able to play around with modems in a direct connection between two computers, with no phone line required. This could even be useful for transferring data to your vintage computer - if you don't mind transfer speeds in the hundreds of bytes per second. :P
