Thieves in law are respective diasporas in the post-Soviet States. They are professional criminals who enjoy the status of an underworld elite.
Russia has recently released a law prescribing punishment for those who hold the highest position in criminal hierarchy: imprisonment from 8 to 15 years. It forces the thieves to fit to the changes.
