Today the Bard College of Citrus returns to the frontlines of the Hells to look at one of the Blood War's more prominent figures, the commander of Avernus herself. Zariel wasn't always a fiend, no, but even when she was a celestial, her fire burned just as hot. It was that passion that was her downfall...

You tried to live your purpose, your command
You wanted every world to act with order and law, ever sharp was your blade, honed and proud with no flaw

The Blood War raging on below, but all Celestial courts, they said
“It’s not your fight,” “don’t make it right,” in whispered, barbed retorts
When all it’d take is one assault, with all the wasted time they spent
So from the mountaintop, you drew your sword! Into Hell itself you went!

Rage-filled commander, I understand
Abandoned by your troops in an infernal land
It all had come to pass, the doom your sires spouted, as the legions clashed and your forces routed,
Your shining heart was blackened as for the first time… you doubted…
And as that mental malady began to tap your spine, you heard the honeyed whispers from the Enemy of the Divine,
Within his whispers, a decree to use your military might upon the battlefield for him! Infernal flames now give you flight!

New legionnaires at your command, and at the height from which you stand,

The new commander of the Hells, the war ignites, the fire swells!

I know there’s a part of who you were, still lingering on within this hellish blur
Vestige memories in the minds of they who still hold hope that you just might return one day!
