Snow & wind to taper down but colder air to hit

Cloudy skies with widespread rain earlier in central to southern areas with even some freezing rain & sleet showers still lingering in far-southeastern areas, as well as more high-elevation snow showers, including now much of New Mexico, are accompanied by a temperature divide from northeast to southwest dragging far to the southwest with a gusty Arctic cold front moving in from the northeast with a reinforcing shot of cold air also arriving from the northwest.

Air temperatures in the north have only risen to the teens while most have ranged from the high teens to the 30s from I-40 to the north, while areas to the south have mostly ranged from the high 20s to the 50s with the mildest air being in far-southwestern areas.

Strong upper-level west-southwesterly winds from the powerful winter storm, still arriving in the form of an upper-level low pressure system, are combining with low-level Gulf moisture plumes arriving from the east with the colder air. Consequently, wintry precipitation is mostly turning to snow for a large swath of the viewing area tonight with pockets of whiteout conditions particularly in the higher elevations to even the East Highlands to North Highlands.

Below-normal overnight to morning temperatures tomorrow will become widespread, marking the coldest air so far this season for many ahead, and with the lingering gusts of winds, temperatures will feel below 0° for a large swath of Eastern New Mexico to northern areas. Air temperatures will drop below the freezing mark for most as while southwestern areas will drop to the upper teens to the 30s, many areas to the northwest will range from starting off a little bit below 0° to the teens by tomorrow morning.

Lingering light snow showers tomorrow morning will eventually dissipate with sunshine returning with cold afternoon high temperatures tomorrow afternoon followed by another bitterly cold start on Monday morning, but conditions will gradually warm up this upcoming week with drier air being accompanied by some passing clouds with mostly lighter winds.
