MIT World School Annual Function Theme: “Manikarnika – The Glorious Journey of Rani Lakshmi Bai”
The Annual Function of MITWorld School proudly presents the theme “Manikarnika”, a tribute to one of India’s greatest freedom fighters, Rani Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi. This theme beautifully captures the inspiring journey of a fearless woman who rose from an ordinary childhood to become a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and patriotism. Through music, dance, drama, and narration, the program takes the audience through the remarkable life of Rani Lakshmi Bai, from her birth as Manikarnika to her glorious martyrdom.
Born in 1828 in Varanasi, Manikarnika, fondly called Manu, displayed extraordinary bravery and strength from a very young age. Raised in a progressive environment, she was trained in horse riding, sword fighting, and archery—skills rarely taught to girls of that era. Her fearless spirit and sharp intellect set her apart, foreshadowing the legendary warrior she would become. The performances highlight her playful yet determined childhood, showing how courage and leadership were nurtured early in her life.
Manikarnika’s life took a significant turn when she married Maharaja Gangadhar Rao, the King of Jhansi, and became Rani Lakshmi Bai. As queen, she proved herself to be wise, compassionate, and deeply committed to her people. Even during personal tragedies, she stood firm and fulfilled her duties as a ruler. The theme portrays her transformation from a young queen to a responsible leader who valued justice, dignity, and independence.
The heart of the presentation focuses on Rani Lakshmi Bai’s heroic role in the First War of Indian Independence in 1857. When the British attempted to annex Jhansi, she refused to surrender her kingdom. With unmatched determination, she led her army into battle, inspiring soldiers and citizens alike. Dressed as a warrior, sword in hand and her child secured behind her, she became a powerful symbol of resistance against oppression. The performances vividly depict her leadership, strategic brilliance, and unbreakable spirit.
The journey concludes with her glorious sacrifice, where Rani Lakshmi Bai fought bravely till her last breath, choosing honor over surrender. Though she attained martyrdom, her legacy continues to live on in the hearts of millions. She remains an eternal inspiration for courage, patriotism, and women empowerment.
Through “Manikarnika”, MITWorld School aims to instill values of bravery, self-respect, and love for the nation among students. This theme is not just a celebration of history but a reminder that true strength lies in standing up for what is right. Rani Lakshmi Bai’s life teaches us that courage has no age or gender, and her story will forever ignite the flame of patriotism in generations to come.
