Time to start strategizing what cards we are going to open!

What are your plans for the next year? What kinds of points will you need to get there? In my opinion, a Chase Business Ink and the Capital One Venture Rewards card should be at the top of your list. Both are favorites for travel hackers and have elevated offers going on Now! Better yet, one is a business, so it doesn’t show up on your credit report or affect your Chase 5/24 status. So what I would do- is unfreeze my credit and apply for both on the same day. This way there’s no recent credit inquiries for when you are ready in another month or two for the 2nd card. Of course, going this route, you want to make sure that you can hit both card’s minimum spend. What amount every month can you count on putting on your credit card? For me, my normal monthly bills equate to about $2500 per month. Plus with my Christmas budget, property taxes, and my annual BMV bill, I know I can hit $10,000 easily in the next 3 months. I could either go for 1 card that has a high minimum spend, like an Ink Preferred, or I could really earn a ton more points by going for 2 credit cards and earning 2 sign up bonuses.
With the Ink Cash and Ink Unlimited, I could earn 90,000 points after spending $6,000 in 3 months for no annual fee. And then I could get the Venture Rewards card to earn 75,000 miles plus a one-time $300 credit on the Capital One Travel portal (good for 1 year), for a $95 annual fee after spending $4,000! The Ink points would go straight to Hyatt for 4 free nights, and the Capital One miles will be used for my flights OR to offset anything that codes as travel. The $300 travel portal credit will be used for a non-Hyatt hotel stay or a rental car. There’s a free vacation, right there, with just 2 credit cards. Timed just right as I head into my expensive, but budgeted for, holiday season!
