Sonic Racing Crossworlds is WEIRD...

Sonic Racing Crossworlds is one of the strangest titles to come out of the Sonic franchise in a while, and not necessarily in a bad way. There’s a lot to be excited about: a slick new racing spinoff with characters like SpongeBob, Patrick, Joker from Persona 5, Ichiban from Yakuza, and Hatsune Miku all joining the race. It sounds like the ultimate crossover dream… until you start noticing the little things that feel off.

In this video, I explore the weird duality of Crossworlds; how it constantly feels like we’re being handed something cool, only for it to come with a strange catch. Like how none of the guest characters have voice lines. Or the fact that this is the most expensive Sonic game ever released, which makes some of the cut corners and awkward decisions stand out even more.

I don’t hate it... in fact, I think there’s a lot of potential here. But it’s hard not to notice how some of these choices feel mismatched with the price tag and the hype. It’s a classic case of “be careful what you wish for.” We got the crossover. We got the variety. But at what cost?

This video isn’t a takedown; it’s more of a closer look at why Sonic Racing Crossworlds feels so strange, and what it says about Sega’s current direction with Sonic and its extended universe.
