TRIP REPORT | Massive Storms and One Hurricane! | AVIANCA A320Neo Business | New York to Bogota

Avianca Trip Report flying from New York to Bogotá onboard one of the Avianca A320Neo, in business class, on a beautiful late-summer afternoon.

A very comfortable flight from New York JFK to Bogotá - El Dorado airport on the Avianca business class. Although the plane was an A320Neo for a 5h route and not the Boeing 787, the flight was really comfortable thanks to the new business class seats that Avianca has fitted in their newer A320Neos.

After some exploration and a nice planespotting session at JFK Terminal 4, we boarded the Avianca A320Neo that would take us to Bogota. Avianca has recently received new A320Neos equipped with some kind of proper business class seats (not the typical blocked middle seat) which was a surprise for me, based on other Trip Reports I'd seen on Youtube.

Stormy. That's the best way to describe this flight. It was a constant battle to avoid the huge amount of cumulonimbus that were on our route. A lot of turbulence as well... but still, it was a beautiful flight. Even though we had lots of clouds we were able to see amazing places like the Bahamas or Cuba. We flew over Jamaica and then entered Colombia, close to Cartagena. Over Medellin, we started our descent to Bogotá, where we landed around 30-40 minutes late.

The views of the storms over the Caribbean Sea were just incredible. They were not only huge, but they were lots of them. At some point, they seemed to be everywhere! Not only over the sea but also over the ground. Some of them with a lot of electrical activity.

About the onboard service... well, the food they served was quite good, but the problem is that it was not even a 3-course meal on a 5h30min flight. There were 2 options: pasta or chicken. As I was the last one to be served, I only had the pasta option available. It came with a piece of bread and a chocolate mousse dessert. Together with the seats... well, it's for sure a much better experience than a couple of years ago... but still, they can't compete at all with Delta, United or American Airlines.
