In this weeks episode of the Van Build Series we go into detail on how we framed our floor and how and why we chose spray foam insulation. We used fourteen foot long 2x4 studs for our floor framing. By ripping them in the table saw we cut them in half and then started attaching them together in the van to build a sturdy subframe. We then used silicon and some 1x4 boards to attach the floor to the van so that the spray foam insulation wouldn't pick up the floor structure as the foam expanded. We then started masking off areas where we didn't want to get any spray foam insulation. This was a tedious process but was definitely worth it in the end. We chose to use a Dow Froth Pak 650 spray foam kit from Amazon for our insulation. In the video we discuss the pros and cons of spray foam along with fiberglass, sheep wool, R board and Great Stuff, and Reflectix insulation. The insulation process went fairly quickly and was actually pretty easy to spray. All in all, I would recommend the Dow Froth Pak 650 spray foam insulation kit to anybody doing a van build for van life.
