Taccoa is another small railroad town that's always reinventing itself. As business slowed in the downtown area, "Toccoa and many other towns erected concrete canopies and closed streets to create a pedestrian mall. In less than ten years, it was evident that instead of enhancing businesses and creating a positive downtown image, these canopies actually accelerated the downtown's decline". (quote from wikipedia) Circa 2008 Tacccoa's canopy was removed. And, the town made renovations to the downtown buildings and the street was reopened other to traffic. This county seat has grown to a small city and almost doesn't fit my definition of a small town. That said, lately the growth has been south of the historic district with newer big box stores, etc.. So, in my mind the "downtown" is still a small town. #walking #smalltownamerica #smallcity
