I had been nursing a worn out transmission for a few months and finally got around to ordering a built 4R100 Stage 2 from A1 Transmissions. To my knowledge, this is pretty much the best Lightning transmission money can buy and according to A1 it is rated for 1500hp! This Ford Lightning transmission has several internal improvements as well as many of the common upgrades for factory transmissions in Lightnings including the deep sump 4x4 transmission pan as well as a performance valve body. I also ordered a 2400rpm Precision Industries stall converter. This setup is very fun to drive and should be durable for years to come. This video shows how to install the new transmission. The symptoms of the transmission as it was going out are it would get hot and not want to make a 1-2 shift at wide open throttle. Also, once it would get hot, sometimes it would cause the overdrive light on the shifter to blink or flash.
