Max Weber's theory of the fact-value distinction has been powerfully influential not just in the field of sociology but really across the social sciences and political science more generally. In his 1917 lecture "Science as a Vocation" Weber advances the theory of the fact-value distinction and explains that while science can establish facts, it cannot establish the value of those facts. The implications of Weber's theory has profound implications for sociology, public policy, government, and the field of life more generally.
In "Science as a Vocation" Weber also explains what he means by "the disenchantment of the world," another one of Weber's ideas that explains the transition in human society from the pre-modern to the modern world.
