E8A 6902 is a regular on Tennessee Central Railway Museum excursions. On this train it's the leading locomotive eastbound and the trailing locomotive westbound.
The recording starts with the locomotive idling at the museum as the crew gets ready and passengers are boarded. The train then leaves Nashville for Carthage Junction. At Carthage Junction the cab units cut off (the E Unit and two F7B) and pull onto other track. The remaining locomotive, an NERR B40-8, pulls the train past and the cub units could onto the west end. The train then pulls west so the GE can uncouple and pull off the main. The cab units then shove the train back so that the GE can come out and couple on. The train then returns to Nashville, with a short stop in the yard in Lebanon. In Nashville the train stops and then backs into the yard.
Initially the right channel is pointing to the front of the locomotive, but during the run the recorder moved. When the recording was stopped the right was facing the rear.
The locomotive is TCRX 6902. It was originally NYC 4084, later becoming PC 4084 and NJT 4251.
The museum operates excursions on the Nashville & Eastern Railroad. The NERR is the portion of the Tennessee Central Railway that was taken over by L&N after the 1968 TC bankruptcy. The NERR is now operated by R.J. Corman.
This is just an audio recording. The image is a still taken the same day.
2025 Update - This locomotive was sold, and is no longer in Nashville.
