Can you teach a horse to lunge without a round pen? Well, let’s find out.
KEY POINTS:
*make sure the horse is comfortable with you
being on both sides
the better you teach them to yield their hind
quarters, the easier it will be to get them to
move off when you ask to lunge
keep a short enough rope so they can't get
away, but long enough so you don't get kicked
bumping the rope helps with them pulling on
you. When they pull, you bump, when they
release you give. They stay soft, you stay soft
stay at the rib cage and back. If you get too
far into front, it will cut them off and they will
swap or run backwards
go with them, never force them to stay in
one spot while they are learning. That will
come with time
patiences. It just takes technique,
