The Ace Tone Rhythm Ace FR-1 drum machine was the first portable, transistorised drum machine, available on the market mid-1960s. Ace Tone later became Roland. It's fascinating to look up the history of this machine and where it led.
Anyway, I've wanted to do this for a while - jam on the White Ghost kit along to the Rhythm. This is a bit long, sorry, but I was enjoying myself. After the first cut a few seconds in, the audio is unedited 10 minutes of straight drumming.
On the FR-1, you can push down any two rhythm selection buttons together and you'll get some combination of the two rhythms (probably not a feature intended by the designer).
I added some echo from the small p.a. I was playing the drum machine through.
The recording is on three old Tascam TR-1 field recorders, one in front and one to each side.
If you want more info on this drum kit, search my channel for 'White Ghost'.
Latest addition is the 20" semi-antique 20" bass drum sitting at an angle on my left. The drum is extremely light in weight and sounds beautiful with its animal skin heads. I propped it up with two very old snare drum stands so I didn't have to attach anything to the drum.
