In 1995, on the occasion of the release of chapters 3a and 3b of Jean-Luc Godard’s Histoire(s) du cinéma (1988-1998), the Festival organized a series of round tables dedicated to the rapport between cinema and history. This is the second in the series, featuring Godard himself, philosophers Jacques Rancière and Marie-José Mondzain, writer and director Ruth Beckermann and the Director of the State Film Archive in Moscow, Naum Kleiman, in a conversation about time and memory, how history determines the development of cinema and how, in turn, cinema shapes our views of history, fostering a simultaneous and not merely chronological interpretation.
