Avebury summer solstice 2023 sunrise. Stone circle & Red Lion pub Singing and drinking fun.

Happy solstice everyone hope you have a great solar Year.
This Year i spent 3 nights at Avebury for summer solstice. First night before the free campsite opened we wild camped near Silbury Hill. The next two nights at the free campsite national trust run for the summer solstice. Met great people along with the regulars i see almost every Year. Spent good amount of time at The Red Lion which is a pub inside the circle along with most of Avebury village which is another unique added over time feature to this Ancient circle or circles. Red Lion is a great place to spend time entertainment wise a lot people singing drinking having a fun time. For those that missed sunrise there was a good one this Year and seems been case for fair few Years in a row now. At the stone circle other than the sunrise is Kings Drummers for Entertainment always worth seeing.

The site is thought to be 1000s of Years old. Today The appearance of Avebury stone circle owes much to Alexander Keiller, heir to a fortune made from the famous Keiller marmalade, who bought the site and cleared away buildings and re-erected many stones in the late 1930s.
