In this video we visit City Interchange, the main bus interchange in the Canberra CBD. The 12-stand bus interchange is straddles two city blocks on Alinga and Mort Streets, and East Row. Opening on the 23 November 1982, the interchange replaced previous bus stops on Northbourne Avenue and London Circuit in mixed traffic.
Here we see some ACTION buses recorded during the morning and afternoon peaks. Most of ACTION's bus fleet can be seen in the video, including the old Renault PR100.2 high floors, now-retired Dennis Dart SLF's, Irisbus Agora Line's, Scania L94UB CNG's, MAN 18.320's, Scania K320UB's (including the 14.5m variety) and Scania K360UA articulated buses. We also see some QCity Transit and Transborder Express buses serving destinations into New South Wales including Queanbeyan and Yass.
This video was recorded in January 2018 before the introduction of Canberra's new bus network which was introduced in April 2019 to coincide with the opening of the Canberra Light Rail from Alinga Street to Gunghalin. As a result many of the route numbers seen in this video either no longer exist or no longer serve City Interchange.
This is also my last brand new video to be uploaded from my January 2018 trip to Canberra. I hope you all enjoyed my transit coverage from Australia's capital city.
