2022 Hyundai Tucson Gets a Stunning Redesign as Popularity Surges

The new Hyundai Tucson will reach the U.S. for 2022—and it gives us many reasons to look forward to its arrival.

Hyundai has completely redesigned the Tucson for 2022, giving it an eye-catching design foreshadowed in the automaker's 2019 Vision T concept.
The 2022 Tucson will be offered with new powertrain options and will also be available in an N-Line variant, although Hyundai wouldn't divulge any details on that quite yet.
The Tucson will make its North American debut on November 9 and will go on sale here toward the middle of 2021.

The Hyundai Tucson has experienced an explosion in popularity among U.S. buyers, with sales growing 290 percent since the SUV was last redesigned in 2014. To continue that trend, Hyundai has brought a sweeping redesign to the Tucson, drawing on the uncluttered and futuristic design cues of the Vision T concept and the styling of its other recently redesigned vehicles.

The 2022 Hyundai Tucson will be offered with three new or updated powertrain configurations, including gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid versions. The internal-combustion model comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine which puts out 178 horsepower and 182 lb-ft of torque and is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. On the hybrid side, a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine puts out, in conjunction with the hybrid system, 229 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The hybrid systems come with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT).

Hyundai would only go so far as to say that some Tucson variants will receive all-wheel drive and noted that there will be a separate debut for the North American version of the 2022 Tucson, slated for November 9. Although the Tucson will be offered in both long- and short-wheelbase configurations globally, only the long-wheelbase version will make it to the U.S. But even if that leaves you disappointed, it will be at the November event that we’ll also learn more about a performance-oriented hybrid version of the Tucson which will make it to the U.S.

The new Tucson will also be offered in an N-Line variant and will be available in all markets. Hyundai didn't give us any details on what the N-Line could entail, but we speculate that it will be equipped with the same engine that is in the Sonata N-Line, a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four that churns out 290 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque.

The redesign of the 2022 Tucson is clear starting from the front grille. The daytime running lights have been integrated into the jewel-like design of the grille which sits at the base of a long hood with Sonata-like horizontal lines running through it. All of this, including the sharp edges which run the length of the car on the sides, give the Tucson a sporty and aggressive appearance.
The interior of the Tucson adopts a simple design centered around a standard 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen or an optional 10.3-inch touchscreen—both upgrades from the outgoing model year. The infotainment screen has been integrated into the dashboard, and also new for 2022 is the instrument cluster's move a separate screen.

Hyundai also revamped the technology in the Tucson, which now including Hyundai’s Digital Key, a feature that allows customers to use their smartphones as keys. The Tucson's "car to home" feature will also give drivers the ability to link up their smart home appliances to their vehicle, so they can do things such as turn on their home air conditioner before they return home, from the vehicle.

The new Tucson will reach the U.S. in the first half of next year as a 2022 model.
