This edition of our Real Hope series marks the anniversary of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline—a service that continues to transform how we respond to mental health and substance use crises.
Since launching in 2022, 988 has made it easier for individuals to connect with trained counselors, anytime, anywhere. In Mississippi, that impact is clear: calls to 988 increased by 14% in the last year, with more than 16,000 calls received and over 97% answered in-state.
Mobile Crisis Response Teams—working in all 82 counties—continue to play a vital role, making over 2,700 in-person visits in FY24, many of which were referrals directly from 988.
This video highlights how 988 is saving lives, building trust, and connecting Mississippians to real, local help when it’s needed most.
