Bill and I cross Portsmouth Harbour from Gosport to spend a day in the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard on HMS Warrior, which has been restored to its 1863 glory and now part of the National Museum of the Royal Navy. This was the first Iron clad ship that was made of iron, not wood. We investigate the Armament, the Furnaces & boilers of the great steam engine and try and visualise the life of the Officers and Ordinary Seamen while they take the ship on it's initial tour around the U.K.
This ship was a warning to anyone who thought of attacking Britain. She was big, almost invulnerable and with the longest range guns of the day. Being Steam powered she was not restricted by wind direction and strength and could travel a thousand miles plus in any direction under Steam alone. A proper deterrent.
This is quite a short tour, just to give you a taste of this amazing ship. There are lots of other videos on YouTube. If I have whetted your appetite, I've listed the better ones below.
