How we turned a small rain event into a BIG rainwater harvest by planting stormwater within simple street-SIDE and IN-street water-harvesting earthworks or rain gardens growing food and shade-producing native plants. Some of these installations also help calm traffic. This dramatically helps reduce the negative effects of drought, climate change, and speeding traffic; while making our neighborhood more beautiful, comfortable, and safe.
We also cover:
• How to turn a mosquito problem into a mosquito solution.
• DOs and DON'Ts of growing food-producing plants irrigated with harvested street runoff.
• Basic maintenance that will MAXIMIZE your rain harvest, while evolving you and your neighborhood.
Video filmed August, 2025.
Dunbar/Spring neighborhood, Tucson, Arizona after a 0.5-inch (13-mm) rain event.
Here we receive an average of 11 inches (280mm) of rain per year.
