New Courses & Special Admissions at IIT Madras | FACE, SEA, ScOpE | B.Tech, M.Tech, B.S. 2025

IIT Madras is expanding its academic offerings with innovative new programs that blend scientific rigour, interdisciplinary learning, and industry relevance aiming to equip students with the needed skills to lead in research, academia, and rapidly evolving industries.

The institute also has its special admission categories to promote holistic excellence - The Fine Arts and Culture Excellence (FACE) admission—starting from 2025-26 - recognises students with exceptional talent in fine arts and culture, the Sports Excellence Admission (SEA) - launched in 2024-25 - rewards outstanding sports performers with the opportunity to pursue higher education while continuing their athletic journey, and the ‘Science Olympiad Excellence’ (ScOpE) - launched for the academic year 2025-2026 - that recognises students outside the JEE (Advanced) Framework who excel in National and International Olympiads.

Under these initiatives, two seats per program (one female-only and one gender-neutral) are allocated across all B.Tech. and B.S. programs.

🔬 B.S. in Chemistry
✅ 4-year UG program with option to upgrade to M.S.
✅ Minor degree options (e.g., Chemistry + Data Science)
✅ Admission: Through the IISER Aptitude Test

🔌 M.Tech. in Electric Vehicles
✅ Interdisciplinary, industry-aligned program
✅ Admission: Through GATE

💻 B.Tech. in Computational Engineering and Mechanics (CEM)
✅ Combines classical engineering with AI and computational tools
✅ Admission: Through JEE Advanced

🧠 B.Tech. in Instrumentation and Biomedical Engineering (iBME)
✅ Focus on healthcare technology, rehabilitation, and AI-driven systems
✅ Admission: Through JEE Advanced

Both new B. Tech Programs offer the option to upgrade to a Dual Degree (B. Tech. + M. Tech.) through the Interdisciplinary Dual Degree (IDDD) Program, with tracks in Computational Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Complex Systems and Dynamics.
