Thasos is one of the best islands for road cycling in Greece. A perfect destination for a cycling vacation. Really good roads and a lots of cycling options. Cycling in Thasos Island can be a wonderful experience. The island is a true cycling paradise only if you don't go during Summer period. In this video we share 5 of the best road cycling routes for you to use if you plan a visit.

There is a road that goes around the island but you can also ride your bike inland and head towards the mountain villages like Kastro, Rachoni, Theologos, Sotiras & Maries.

The best climbs of the island for cycling are Kastro and Panteleimonas.
If you plan a road bike vacation keep in mind that the road quality in general is pretty good, with some occasional potholes on the inner roads.

Also, verry important, we don't recommend to visit Thassos during July or August as it is verry crowded with tourists and car traffic can be annoying.
The best months to visit Thasos for cycling are late April, May, June, September & October.

Here are our TOP 5 routes to use when road cycling in Thasos. Keep in mind that we started them from Skala Maries village but you could adapt them to start from your place of accommodation. Also, you can shorten or extend them as you wish :

Route 1: Thasos Tour Counterclockwise (91km):

We drove to the island but you can also arrive by plane (Kavala and Salonic are the closest airports) and rent a car. To get on the island you need to take a Ferry from Keramoti.
