I left a Creditor Off my Bankruptcy Petition - Am I in Deep Trouble

As I discuss in this video, there usually is a solution to this problem - sometimes simple, and sometimes a little complicated. But you can usually make this debt go away.

What you must not do is panic. Further you should not make any payments on that debt as payments can, in some cases, limit your options. Instead, pick up the phone and call your bankruptcy attorney for guidance as to what to do.

If the omitted debt is unsecured (like a credit card debt, personal loan or medical obligation) your path to debt elimination will be fairly easy. Assuming that your omission was unintentional, you can argue that the debt should be discharged because had it been included it would have been wiped out in your bankruptcy. #bankruptcydischarge

If the omitted debt is secured, or if the unsecured creditor is not cooperative, you may have to re-open your bankruptcy case. Believe it or not you can re-open a bankruptcy case months or even years after discharge. #unsecuredloan
