Social Security disability judges often ask expert witnesses called "vocational experts" to appear and testify at your hearing. These witnesses use a Department of Labor publication called the Dictionary of Occupational Titles to classify the physical and educational demands of various jobs.
After taking testimony the judge will pose a hypothetical question to the VE that includes some or all of the limitations that you contend prevent you from working. Based on the limitations contained in the judge's question the VE will testify that there are or that there are not jobs you could perform.
