The Engineering Department of Howrah Division has undertaken a significant and commendable initiative to celebrate World Environment Day on 5th June 2025 by successfully organizing a Mass Plantation Programme across various sections of its jurisdiction.
This green initiative stemmed from the strategic planning and vision of the senior officials of the Engineering Department. The process began with identifying suitable locations, preparing the sites, and culminated in a large-scale plantation drive carried out with the active participation of divisional and headquarters-level officials.
Adding further value to the event, students from a local school joined hands with railway officials in a special plantation drive conducted at Gulmohar Railway Colony, reinforcing the message of environmental responsibility among the younger generation.
The outcome of this effort has been noteworthy:
A total of 17 locations were improved,
Including 9 in railway colonies
3 in station circulating areas
5 along station approaches
A cumulative area of 8651 sqm was greened.
A total of 2508 saplings were planted across all sites.
