My own take of an extended version of Congregation that uses the full song.
There's a short story behind this extension actually. I actually started working on this months ago, due to my boredom. However, demotivation hit me, and then the old extension was abandoned.
Then, one level brought me to finishing the extension. That level was Consecration by fpfp & more. It was meant to be a spinoff of Congregation, using the first part of the song before the part that Congregation actually uses. I first saw this level from fnm04's channel, saying it was a Congregation prequel (it was then changed to say “spinoff”). However, by looking at the comments, it seems that it doesn't capture the feel of Congregation, and was said that this is not how a prequel should be done. I won't say the level's issues here though. The level is fine as it’s own by the way, no intentions for hating. (Please DON’T send hate to that level)
Moving to my extension, I listened and saw the feedback that was said to the spinoff, which can help make it more of a "proper" prequel. After a few days of work, I managed to slightly capture the feel of the OG level, and also adding a few tweaks I had in mind in order to match the song's energy, most notably the entire background and level pulsing.
After finishing the "prequel" part of the extension, it was time for the "sequel" part. Listening to how the song becomes after Congregation, I knew I had to brainstorm some ideas to fit the eerieness of the song. Firstly, I made the end screen in the OG level corrupt, in a creepy "it's not over" style. Next, ideas I had in mind are: making the part upside-down, making it darker compared to the rest of the level, no moving blocks, and introducing a slight progression of "decaying blocks", inspired by the “decay” dimension in the Minecraft April Fools Snapshot 20w14infinite.
Finally. on the true final part, I only used dark blocks, as the part of the song is more empty than the rest, eventually ending in a glitched repetition. After the song ends, I put a "NO SIGNAL" text, which means that, based on my interpretation, is the entire level and player getting consumed by the dark void.
I kinda liked the final product, but of course, the extensions aren't perfect. There can be issues that you can find, from simple visual bugs, to the parallelism with the original level. Despite this, the real big issue is the level's balancing. As someone who's hardest is Acropolis, I have no real idea on the level's true demon list difficulty, as the gap between skill levels are huge at this point.
Making the extensions in a level like Congregation isn't a piece of cake by the way. It is like attempting to imitate the style of old renaissance artists using only crayons and a pencil.
Anyways, you can feel free to give your criticisms, and I'll try to fix them, if I will.
Edit: People seem to like this extension. I don’t get this… I know there are flaws, but…
Okay, I get that some people will hate it because “extending extreme demon is unnecessary and useless”, but please note, I only made this FOR FUN.
Edit 2: The Congregation Jumpscares guy is now aware of the existence of this level, uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh did the popularity of this extension go too far??? idk
