'Little Italy' is a lovely, largely unknown China Crisis instrumental. It was on the B-side of their final charting single, 'Best Kept Secret' (1987), and appeared on cd for the first time on the (rare) second disc of Collection: The Very Best of China Crisis (1990). Hopefully making LI available on youtube will help raise its profile. My visuals are from Kanin and McCarey's My Favorite Wife (1940), an hilarious, somewhat neglected reprise of Cary Grant and Irene Dunne's amazing chemistry from McCarey's The Awful Truth (1938). Ellen Arden (Dunne) has been lost at sea then stranded on a desert island for seven years. She returns home on the very day her husband Nick (Grant) has her declared legally dead and remarries. Dunne rushes to Nick and Bianca's (Gail Patrick) honeymoon hotel, arriving before them...
[Interesting aspects of the scenes: (i) Ellen's dress is too long for her coat (because her mother only saved a few of her old clothes), but how precisely does she shorten the dress in the bathroom? (ii) Why does the bathroom door swing open behind Ellen, and why does the focus drop back to see that? (iii) Is the fire in the fireplace real, or is it blown strips of material?]
