🌺 The Tribal Story That Helped Me See My Mother With New Eyes

💔 A few years ago, my mom had a stroke. She retained her faculties, but she lost her ability to speak—and it took months of gentle presence, speech therapy, and care to help her find her voice again.
I was her sole caretaker. And just a couple weeks in, I was already deep in caregiver burnout—juggling her medical needs, diet changes, speech recovery, legal matters, and even helping her with university administration emails for classes she had been taking at the time. It was overwhelming.
Then I went to a yoga class in her town. Not just any yoga class—but a humble, very honest restorative yoga session run by a Hawaiian owner and his gentle golden pit bull. That day, he shared the most moving tribal story I’ve ever heard. 🌿
It wasn’t the simplified Ho’oponopono phrase many people know (“I’m sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you. I love you.”).
This was a deeper story—of a man who had wronged his tribe, owned his mistakes, and expected to be shunned. But instead, the tribe restored him. The elders began affirming the good they had once known about him. Through unconditional love, shame melted away. The man was restored. The community was restored. 🌀
That story left me in tears. But more importantly… it made me hopeful. I started seeing my mother differently—not just through the lens of the diagnosis, doubt and fear, but instead through her full humanity. Her joy, humor, generosity. Even her fear and guilt. 💛
That tribal story became the foundation for why I now integrate Ho’oponopono into many of the breathwork sessions I lead.
Not because it’s trendy or “cute”… but because it is sacred work.
Restoration isn’t just about forgiving. It’s about reclaiming our peace, our love, and our freedom—through honoring the whole picture of our humanity. Through intention. Through breath. Through presence. ✨
Healing isn’t always pretty. But when done with love and reverence… it’s transformational. 🌺
🎥 This video is part storytelling, part education—and a full-hearted invitation to remember what Ho’oponopono really is.
💬 If you’ve experienced a similar healing moment, or if this story touched something in you, I’d love to hear from you in the comments.
I hope my channel will serve and inspire you. 💛
