I just wish I never woke back up.

The road I hated was called “normal.”
So I sang about it, like that would fix anything.
It never did.

When did I grow up?
Why do I walk forward even when I'm terrified?
Why do I keep going when I already know I’ll die?
I heard a knock on the door.
It was tomorrow, begging for me to live.

Tears fall without permission.
Like rain. Like grief. Like nothing at all.
I held my own hands.
I saw nothing in them.
Was I really crying?

It's quiet.
I will stay quiet.
It will be quiet when I sing my final song.
