It’s funny, how something so small—a no-show, a rose wilting too soon—can feel like the world reminding you of its quiet truths. That love is not owed. That anticipation is fragile. That some doors, no matter how wide you open them, lead only to empty rooms.

I sat there longer than I needed to, sipping wine that tasted more like memory than fruit. And when I finally left, I didn’t take the rose. Some promises are better left for the table, burning softly under a candle no one asked to light.
