Sweetheart Rag on Hammond B3

Here's a fairly simple ragtime piece that was quickly improvised on a 3 manual, 40+ rank concert pipe organ installed in the basement of a late friend's (C.R.) house over 30 years ago, kind of as a reply to a question I had when we were playing a few Scott Joplin tunes and I wondered aloud as to how long it took Joplin to create one of his rags, and C.R. said, "he might have just knocked one of those out right at the moment," and then he proceeded to play the first of several versions of this. After he played it several times he finally had developed it into this, which I played here. When I asked, what should we call this, his wife said, "Sweetheart Rag," so that's what it became; the Sweetheart Rag. In addition to the large pipe organ, C.R. also had a Hammond RT3 playing through a 31H "tall" Leslie. C.R. was one of those rare individuals who was an accomplished classically trained organist who was equally at home with popular music and Hammonds, and who had a great gift for improvisation. One of my favorites, which I will play in a future video was his improvisation on the famous Mulet toccata, "Thou Art the Rock," and which he turned into a toccata version of Grieg's "The Mountain King." If you turn on subtitles, you can follow along with what I am doing in different places here, and I have also included a timeline below, which is also accessible through the "scrub bar" below the video if you want to go quickly to any particular portion of it. This also features a drums and bass solo section, and I am using the Hammond to create certain "drum kit" sounds along with the drum machine, and feature the TrekII string bass accessory as well. If you like what I do on a Hammond, subscribe to The HAMMOND Guy channel and that way, YouTube will notify you whenever I upload a new video.
