What I'm Tasting:
Deanston Dragons Milk Stout Cask Finish


My Experience:
👃🏻Nose: Initially, I was getting a good amount of vanilla, lavender, and other floral sort of notes. It's a very light nose, with an overlay of honey, chocolate, and mint. In my later experience, I also picked up apple, pear, lemon, and could somewhat smell the spicy and darker notes waiting to come. With a splash of water, I think the floral notes become more prominent, and the nose overall becomes even lighter.

👅Palate: Initially, this was packed with a ton of jalapeño type flavor. Very very spicy -- lots of heat. There is also a medicinal, leather and rough vibe going on with the texture of the flavor. In my later experience, I also noticed a layer of citrus throughout the entire palate. I really picked up the leather more, with some cigar and cinnamon as well. With a splash of water, the spiciness becomes a tiny bit more subdued but just at the beginning. There is still plenty of heat at the peak of the palate.

🥅 Finish: I'd say the Finish was medium-short in length. Fruits and citrus notes appear a little more into the conclusion, as the spice and leather notes dissipate. The splash of water lengthens the Finish into medium-long, or perhaps just plain long. There is a transition towards the very end from sweet and citrus notes into a somewhat bitter taste (green tea or early grey possibly).

Generally, I think I enjoyed the nose the most on this whiskey. Very aromatic and pleasant. The palate may have been a bit much for me in terms of aggression, and the Finish was lackluster until I added the splash of water. For some reason, the water did make the Finish a little more complex.
