This gorgeous 1962 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8 Coupe is a wonderful example of an early matching numbers E-Type. It has 63,650 original miles and was with the last owner for 34 years. As the Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate documents it was built on June 7th, 1962 as a Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8L Fixed-head coupe-(LHD) with a Cream exterior, Red interior and manual transmission. It was one of only 7,670 fixed head coupes built in 1962. From the information gathered including a copy of the registration from 1986, it’s believed this vehicle spent its life in California until it was acquired by the last owner who lives in Portage, MI. This car was purchased by the last owner in 1987 as a survivor with roughly 47,000 original miles. As the service records indicate it was driven and routinely serviced throughout the years. In 1999, the car was sent to a facility where it was completely repainted in its original color. In 2019, the car was sent to another facility for mechanical and cosmetic work which totaled $43,000.00. Some of that work included removing the front end, repainting the firewall and frame, rebuilding the engine, transmission, steering, suspension and braking system. In 2022, MS CLASSIC CARS performed additional mechanical and cosmetic work which totaled $27,000.00. Some of that work included new exterior glass, exterior trim and interior upholstery. This car is now ready to show and enjoy.

The exterior is in beautiful condition throughout. The unique styling is like rolling artwork. It retains all the original sheet metal throughout. During the re-painting process the body was stripped. A few minor rust spots were repaired on the body pan and trunk floor. The car was painted in the original Cream color with PPG Deltron Concept which is a basecoat/clearcoat application. The paint was recently detailed to a brilliant shine. The front windshield, quarter glass and rear glass was replaced new. Everything on the exterior was restored or replaced such as the window trim, wipers, mirrors, headlight bezels, front bumper, tail light bezels and rear bumpers. The car sits on the 15” chrome wire wheels that are secured with two-eared knock-off spinners. The wheels are wrapped with Michelin XVS-P 185HR15 tires that were replaced new in November of 2020.

The interior is also in beautiful condition throughout. The cabin was trimmed with Red from the factory. It was recently reupholstered including the door panels, door sills, bucket seats, console side trim, shift boot, E-brake boot, carpeting and cargo area. The red carpeting is contrasted by a black dashboard and the textured aluminum center console trim extends to the switchgear panel on the dashboard. A wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel with an E-Type center cap sits ahead of the Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock. A quartet of auxiliary instrumentation in the center stack includes an ammeter, along with displays for coolant temperature, oil pressure and fuel level. It’s equipped with a Kenwood stereo with custom speakers in the front and rear.

The engine compartment is highly detailed throughout with many new parts. The entire engine bay was restored from 2019-2020. The bonnet was completely removed to allow easy access. The firewall and frame were stripped and repainted. Everything was restored or replaced during this process. The original matching numbers 3.8L Inline 6 cylinder engine was completely rebuilt and runs excellent. It’s equipped with triple SU carburetors and polished valve covers. This engine was rated with 265HP from the factory. The engine breathes through a dual exhaust system which sounds sweet. The engine is coupled to the original matching numbers Moss 4-speed manual transmission which was completely rebuilt.

The undercarriage is very clean throughout with many new parts. Everything was restored or replaced such as the fuel system, steering system, suspension system and braking system.
