How to groom a snowmobile trail. Doesn't matter what snow cat you have the process is the same. The "refrigerator effect" is when you have a bank and ditch on one side of the trail. It traps cold air and the snow is slower to melt than the rest of the trail. It is amplified when there is a drop off and/or trees on the opposite side of the trail. There is more warm air and the snow melts rather quickly compared to the ditch side. We cut the trail to have the cat lean towards the ditch. When the snow starts to melt, the trail will be closer to level.
