Marsanne is a gorgeous white wine varietal of golden color, awesome aromatics and delightful flavors. It is primarily found in the Rhone region of southeastern France, but vines transplanted in areas in the central coast of California like Paso Robles and Santa Barbara. Sometimes it is a single varietal, but is often made in what is called a Marsanne blend, where it is usually blended with Roussanne to add a little acidity and more aromatics to this otherwise low acid wine of medium to full body.
Given that Marsanne does hail from France, this week's tip of the week centers around understanding French wine labels with a quick and easy tip along with a more in-depth explanation for those inquiring minds. It isn't fully comprehensive but its a great start to feeling more confident about selecting quality French wines.
