The lake held its breath
as her fingers touched the keys.

Moonlight poured across the water, silver and slow, turning ripples into mirrors. Each note she played rose gently, drifting upward to join the stars, as if the night itself were listening—afraid to interrupt.

She did not play for an audience.

The melody carried memories no words could hold: footsteps that no longer echoed, names spoken only in dreams, promises left unfinished. Yet there was no sorrow in the sound—only release.

The moon leaned closer, pale and patient.
Even the sky softened.

With every chord, the world grew quieter, until silence and music became the same thing. The piano reflected the cosmos, and for a moment, she sat at the center of everything—neither alone nor surrounded, simply *present*.

When the final note faded, the water kept it safe, rippling outward so it would never truly end.

And the moonlight remained,
watching over the song
long after the hands had rested.
