I’ve had hallux valgus (also known as bunions) from a young age — those painful bony bumps with a crooked big toe. Unfortunately, it only gets worse over time, often ending in surgery as the only solution.
That’s why I’ve decided to ditch all my “normal” footwear and switch entirely to barefoot shoes, hoping to slow down the progression as much as possible.
That also meant saying goodbye to my Shimano cycling shoes, which had way too narrow a toe box. Luckily, some models from Lake offer a much wider fit, especially in the toe area. And what a relief — now I can ride with SPD (click) pedals without pain! It really makes a difference, especially on my fast electric mountain bike. No more slipping off the pedals — unless I crash, of course...
👉 Do you also suffer from hallux valgus?
How do you deal with it? Got any tips or recommendations?
