🚴‍♂️ Vietnam Veterans Memorial Trail / EPCAL Bike Path – Full Loop Ride | Calverton, NY

In this episode, we’ll explore the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Trail in Calverton, New York! It’s a 9.2 mile fully-paved loop trail that encircles the “Enterprise Park Calverton” or “EPCAL”, the origins of which go back to 1950s when the US Navy owned the property and its contractor, Grumman, built and tested various aircraft on-site for the service.

Despite running alongside a major business park and active airport, this trail offers a surprisingly peaceful and scenic ride, making it great for cycling, including newer riders, as well as walkers and runners, families, and nature lovers!

While this may be a “sub-10-mile” trail, it’s a very fun ride with its number of 90-degree bends and a few sloping grades, as well as a unique feature on this trail, just after mile 5 - why is it called “Drew’s Tower” and what’s it doing there? I reveal the details!

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Trail passes through the largest contiguous area of grassland on Long Island, and is recognized as a documented natural area for various wildlife!
