বায়োলজির দিক থেকে দেখলে কথাটা ঠিক, "কন্যা সন্তান জন্মের জন্য পিতা দায়ী।" তবে শুধু কন্যা সন্তান নয়, মাতৃ-জঠরে শিশুর (ভ্রুণের) লিঙ্গ নির্ধারিত হয় পিতার জন্য।

ভ্রুণের লিঙ্গ কি হবে সেটা ঠিক হয় সেক্স-ক্রোমোজোম থেকে। পুরুষের দেহে সেক্স-ক্রোমোজোম থাকে XY আর মহিলার দেহে সেক্স-ক্রোমোজোম থাকে XX.

নিষেকের আগে বা ডিম্বানুর সাথে শুক্রানুর মিলনের আগে, ডিম্বানুর মধ্যে দুটি সেক্স-ক্রোমোজোম থাকে — X এবং X, আর এগুলো আসে মায়ের থেকে। অন্যদিকে পিতার দেহ থেকে যে শুক্রানু আসে তার কোনোটার মধ্যে থাকে সেক্স-ক্রোমোজোম X আর কোনোটার মধ্যে থাকে সেক্স-ক্রোমোজোম Y.

এবার যদি X-ক্রোমোজোম যুক্ত শুক্রানু ডিম্বানুর সাথে মিলিত হয় তাহলে ভ্রুণের মধ্যে সেক্স-ক্রোমোজোম থাকে XX এবং ভ্রুণের লিঙ্গ হয় স্ত্রী অর্থাৎ কন্যা সন্তানের জন্ম হয়।

কিন্তু যদি Y-ক্রোমোজোম যুক্ত শুক্রানু ডিম্বানুর সাথে মিলিত হয় তাহলে ভ্রুণের মধ্যে সেক্স-ক্রোমোজোম থাকে XY এবং ভ্রুণের লিঙ্গ হয় পুরুষ অর্থাৎ পুত্র সন্তানের জন্ম হয়।

অর্থাৎ, কোন ধরনের শুক্রাণু মিলিত হচ্ছে ডিম্বাণুর সাথে, তার ওপর নির্ভর কোরছে পুত্র সন্তান হবে নাকি কন্যা সন্তান হবে। আর শুক্রাণু আসে পিতার কাছ থেকে। তাই বলাই যায়, "কন্যা সন্তান জন্মের জন্য পিতা দায়ী।"

"বারবার মা কেন কন্যা সন্তানের জন্ম দিচ্ছে?", এই অজুহাতে যারা বধু নির্যাতন করে, তারা যদি একথা জানত, তাহলে হয়ত বৌ-এর অত্যাচার কোরতো না।

The gender of the fetus is determined by the sex-chromosome. Male body has sex-chromosome XY and female body has sex-chromosome XX.

Before fertilization or the union of the sperm with the egg, the egg contains two sex-chromosomes — X and X, and these come from the mother. On the other hand, the sperm that comes from the father's body contains sex-chromosome X and some contains sex-chromosome Y.

Now if the sperm with X-chromosome meets the ovum then the embryo has sex-chromosome XX and the sex of the embryo is female i.e. a girl child is born.

But if the sperm with Y-chromosome meets the ovum then the embryo has sex-chromosome XY and the gender of the embryo is male i.e. a boy is born.

That is, which type of sperm meets the egg, depending on whether the child will be a boy or a girl. And the sperm comes from the father. So it can be said, "The father is responsible for the birth of a daughter."

If those who torture brides on the pretext of "Why are mothers giving birth to daughters again and again?", if they knew this, then maybe they would not have tortured the bride.
