This one's 'bout Betty
Stays home all day
Working in her garden
She loves to play
Hears the sirens wailing
Don't bother her
At least, not yet
Set by her state of mind
Tomatoes and peas
Are what she likes to grow
If you're her friend, she'll share some
But don't give them 'way, oh no
The last one to do that met a sudden end
Throat slit with broken glass she then discarded in the park
Out walking your dog, keep it on a leash
What's hiding in the grass?
You better cover your feet
If the little creature it begins to stray
Pull it back to the path or it might hack up its paws
Can't help but take notice
The glint catches your eye
Bloodied shards in the blades she tried to hide
Dial 911 not sure what it could mean
But this should be inspected
Who left it, confronted
Paranoia grips her
So she heads inside
Locks all the doors
And pulls all the blinds
Capture on her mind
She washes her hands
Then does it again
And once more to be sure
Sits on the couch
To read her favorite book
Been on the same page for months
The syllables don't add up
Worried she'll be caught
She can't sit still at all
Goes to make lunch
Then hears a rumble out front
She rushes upstairs
Pulls aside the blind
It's the cops, they're coming
Questions on their minds
Fearing they'll find out
She heads back to the kitchen
Left something there
Will solve her troubles she's sure
It's a jagged piece of glass
She saved one for her
Slashes at her forearm
Bleeding out on the floor
Cops break and enter and they try to revive her
But they're too late, it's over
She's gone.
