Study the Early Modern History MSc postgraduate degree at the University of Glasgow.

The Early Modern History MSc is very flexible, enabling you to create an exciting year of study based on your interests. Our core and optional courses will introduce you to key methods, sources and approaches to Early Modern History, and you will work closely with leading experts in Early Modern History, who take innovative approaches to this period. You will have the opportunity to explore the period through themes such as inequalities, animal history, the history of politics, and more.

You’ll have access to the University’s Archives and Special Collections, enabling you to work with early modern records to support your research. Further afield, Glasgow is also home to fascinating archival materials in the Mitchell Library, as well as the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons.

You’ll develop excellent analytical and research skills, and build your confidence as a historian through engaging with primary sources, research seminars and workshops. Programme graduates have progressed to careers in museums and galleries, education, media, heritage organisations, policy, campaigning, and voluntary organisations. The programme also offers support for students who wish to continue their studies and enter PhD research.
