Cha-Tsumi is one of the Japanese songs that are commonly taught and sung in schools. The song describes the scenes of tea picking in the early summer.
This arrangement is written for the final assignment of the course, "Arranging and Reharmonization for A Cappella," offered by Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
[Translation]
It’s the beginning of May; the summer is coming soon.
Fields and mountains are filled with young green leaves.
Look over there! People are picking tea leaves, aren’t they?
They are working with their red sashes and sedge hats on.
The weather has been great in a row these days.
It makes me happy and want to sing this song while working in the tea farm.
Pick the tea leaves one after another quickly but with great care.
Because they will be the great Japanese green tea.
